The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held a certificate presentation ceremony recently to award a total of 288 students for their completion of internship offered by the Global Internship Programme (GIP).  The programme, organized by the Office of Student Affairs, has been developed to provide students with a diversity of internship and cultural exchange opportunities since 1997.

香港中文大学(中大)早前举行「寰宇暑期实习计划」毕业证书颁授典礼，颁发证书予288名参与计划的学生。自1997起，中大学生事务处举办「寰宇暑期实习计划」，为学生提供多元化的实习经验及文化交流机会，至今已惠及超过2,600名同学。

-香港中文大学蝉联五届港澳地区冠军

中国学界两年一度的盛事——第十二届「挑战杯」全国大学生课外学术科技作品竞赛（挑战杯），于10月15日至20日在大连理工大学举行。香港中文大学（中大）再创佳绩，赢得「港澳优胜杯」，连续五届荣获港澳地区冠军。这是香港高校自1997年参加「挑战杯」竞赛以来，首次有院校夺得五连冠。

 

-CUHK Undergraduate Students Win Gold Medal at iGEM Asia
-Heading to US Next Month for World Championship
-中大本科生夺国际遗传工程机器设计竞赛亚洲区金奖　下月赴美参加世界赛

A genetic engineering team formed by undergraduate students of science and engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) recently won a gold medal at the iGEM (international Genetic Engineered Machine) Asia Regional Jamboree. They also won the Best BioBrick Measurement Approach and the Best New BioBrick Part (Natural) awards and were qualified to participate in the world championship of the iGEM Jamboree to be held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in November, competing with over 50 teams from around the world.

由香港中文大学（中大）理学院及工程学院本科生组成的基因工程队伍日前在国际遗传工程机器设计竞赛（iGEM）的亚洲区比赛中荣获金奖，并同时获颁最佳生物新天然零件及最佳零件实验量度两项大奖，取得晋身世界赛的入场券，将于下月赴美国麻省理工学院参加iGEM决赛，与全球五十多队队伍一较高下。

-中大奖学金得主发扬「施比受更有福」精神 散播爱心种子回馈社会

While scholarships may help students to ease the financial burden upon them, or to pursue further studies and exchange opportunities, they may also inspire students to extend the spirit of caring and giving to others. Two scholarship recipients of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Mr Xu Ziheng, a 2009 information engineering graduate and Mr Chan Kin-pong, a year five psychology student, who respectively received the Lanson Foundation Scholarship and the HSBC Overseas Scholarship, have recently demonstrated the spirit of generous giving in a remarkable manner.

奖学金对学生的而言，并不止于经济压力的舒缓，或获取升学、交流的机会；它可以成为一颗爱心种子，培养「施比受更有福」的精神。香港中文大学（中大）两位曾获Lanson Foundation Scholarship奖学金的信息工程学系毕业生徐子恒，以及获汇丰银行海外奖学金的心理学系五年级生陈健邦，以行动彰显了饮水思源的可贵特质，以及回馈社会的无私精神。

-Six Graduates Awarded Croucher Scholarships and Fellowships
-六毕业生获颁裘槎奖学金及研究生奖学金

A total of six CUHK graduates have received the Croucher Scholarships and Fellowships for further studies in the academic year 2011–12 at prestigious overseas institutions. Mr. Lam Ka-kit, who graduated from CUHK with first class honours in mathematics and information engineering in 2011, has been admitted to UC, Berkeley to pursue a PhD in engineering.

六名中大毕业生获颁裘槎奖学金及研究生奖学金，于2011至12年度负笈欧美顶尖学府进行研究。
2011年以一级荣誉毕业的数学及信息工程学（双学位）毕业生林嘉杰获加州大学柏克莱分校录取，入读工程学博士课程。

-Orientation Day Draws Record-Breaking Number of Visitors
-入学资讯日参加人数创新高

CUHK held its Orientation Day for Undergraduate Admissions on 8 and 9 October, attracting some 89,000 visitors, many of them secondary school teachers, students and their parents, to our campus.

中大在10月8和9日于校园举办本科入学资讯日，吸引了大批中学生、家长和教师参加。两天的总参观人数约有八万九千人，创历届新高。

-CUHK Scoops Championships of Two Rowing Competitions
-中大划艇队连番报捷

The CUHK rowing team competed against six local tertiary institutions on 6 and 7 August in the 'Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Hong Kong Universities Rowing Championships 2011’ held at the Sha Tin Rowing Centre, Shing Mun River.

中大划艇队健儿于8月6及7日假沙田划艇中心举行的「成龙挑战杯2011年全港大学赛艇锦标赛」中，击退六所大专院校的对手，卫冕团体全场总冠军，连续第十年夺得此项殊荣。

-Lessons from the UK
-向 英 国 取 经

Guo Songtao, the first Chinese ambassador to Britain in late-Qing China, must be one of the earliest Chinese visitors to the Royal Observatory Greenwich. He visited the observatory on 3 July 1877 and wrote down what he saw in his journal. This year, a group of CUHK students set foot in the same place. Although China has changed from what it was 134 years ago, these students still have something to learn from the UK.

清廷驻英公使郭嵩焘，应该是历史上最早访问英国格林尼治天文台的中国人之一，他在光绪三年五月二十三日（1877年7月3日）的
日记中写下：「至罗亚尔阿伯色尔法多里[Royal Observatory]，
伦敦观星台也。」今年7月，一群中大学生踏足同一地点。虽然物换星移，但他们和一百三十四年前的郭公使一样，仍在英国看到可资借鉴的经验。

-PhD Student at CUHK one of the translators of Steve Jobs
-中大博士生译《乔传》内地版 窥探机密原稿与偶像最后「对话」

One of the four translators who turned Steve Jobs, the authorized biography of the late IT legend into Chinese, is a doctoral student at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Miss Zhao Mengmeng, a 27-year old student from Nanjing who read English for her first degree, is currently a PhD student in Communication at CUHK.

盛载「苹果教主」传奇一生的《乔布斯传》，中英文版上周同步面世，全靠一班上月执行绝密翻译任务的中文译者，当中包括一名80后中大生。中大内地博士生赵萌萌早前在出版社翻译赛脱颖而出，成为《乔传》内地版4名译者之一，翻译当中50万字，有幸率先窥探页页盖上红色「机密」的原稿，揭开教主神秘面纱，用秀丽中文与偶像作最后「对话」。

Learning Leadership in London
到伦敦学做领袖

The participants of this tour to London did not stroll along the River Thames. They were taken to an immigrant district to visit a mutual support group. They didn’t take a ride on the London Eye. They were taken to different social enterprises. There was no complaint from the participants because it was not some ordinary sightseeing tour, but the study tour of CUHK’s Leadership Development Programme (LDP).


这个游览团到了伦敦，没有安排漫步泰晤士河畔，却跑去移民社区走访互助团体；不去坐伦敦眼，却去参观一个又一个社会企业。团员没有投诉，还觉得不枉此行。因为这不是一般的旅游团，而是中大领袖培育课程的海外考察团。

An alumnus of Chung Chi College, Fong So studied economics at CUHK and graduated in 1974. He learned painting from Chao Shao-an, the master of the Lingnan School of painting. Fong is a journalist-turned painter, who uses social issues and lives of ordinary people as the theme of his paintings.

方苏，1974年毕业于中大经济系，崇基学院校友，少时师从岭南派大师赵少昂。原从事新闻工作，后专注绘画艺术。其水墨创作多以社会民生为题材，画风独特。
